Card limits let you set restrictions around where and when your virtual or physical cards can be used.

Card limits can be applied at the card and at the card group level.

To apply limits to a card:

  1. Click on a card in the cards page

  2. Under limits, make sure "Card" is selected and then click "Edit card limit"

  3. If "Group" is selected and you click "Edit group limit", you'll be taken to a place to edit the limits of the card group the card belongs to.

We currently support 4 kinds of card limits:

  1. Merchant limits:

    1. Merchant limits allow you to create a blacklist or whitelist of specific merchants.

    2. If you create a merchant "Allow"-list, only transactions at the merchants you specify will go through.

    3. If you create a merchant "Block"-list, only transactions OUTSIDE the merchants you specify will go through.

  2. Merchant category limits

    1. They work very similar to card limits. You can create allow- or block-lists of merchant categories

  3. Transaction size limits

    1. These let you specify transaction sizes you want to allow. If you set a range like $200 - $300, all transactions smaller or larger than that range will be declined. This is great for subscription payments where you don't want a merchant to charge you a different amount than you agreed to.

  4. Utilization limits

    1. These let you specify limits on how much can be spent on a card over a given period of time (day, week, month, quarter, total)
